Jimmy traits

A summary of the Jimmy character for use in fanfics. Will tidy up later. Opinions are my own and may bear no resemblance whatsoever to reality.

Jimmy first arrived in Split Decision and replaced Gerald who was shot by Ziva's half brother Ari in Bete Noir. He coined the term 'meat puzzle' in the show (Reveille).

Physical/heath stuff

6 ft tall, right handed and has green hazel eyes:

Dream character for all the ff writers who enjoy a good womping. Jimmy comes complete with diabetes (In The Dark), tinnitus (A Weak Link) and short sight. He's had a cold (A Weak Link), been off the with flu (Doppleganger) and had root canal (Frame Up). He is also a touch claustrophobic (The Good Wives Club). Small poc marks on face could be attributed to acne or a bad childhood case of the chicken pox (my son has some).

Personality/Hobbies

Fairly young and naive not having heard of most of Ducky's (or Gibbs') old references such as Betty Grable, P51s etc. (Silver War). People like Jimmy don't do well in prison (Shalom)

Rather pragmatic sense of humour often seen as in bad taste by others. - "white meat or dark" (Head Case), "traffic was murder" (Switch), "One wet vac for the soylent green" (Skeletons). Often says the wrong thing in bad taste without realising the consequences 'that came out wrong'. See most people as equals. Confident in his own way but keen to gain more knowledge. Follows basketball (The Voyeurs Club) and Wrestling (Head Case). Watches the discovery channel (Friends and Lovers.)

He is good with kids (Lost and Found) and Dogs (Dog Tags). He has a car (Head Case) which in About Face, turns out to be a Honda Prelude more details on the Jimmy's car page.

Ususally wears a tie on crime scenes and is seen in a suit on Driven, Angel of Death and Stake Out.

At the bar in Angel of Death he ordered a Chocolate Martini then changed it to a Green fairy Mojito.

Can be hypnotised and has a bit of a shoe fetish - specifically leather boots.

Family

Never mentions a father only a mother who paid for his education (Switch), was annoyed about him bury pets when he lived on the 10th floor of an apartment (Terminal Leave) and called him on his cell when he first started the job (Split Decision). Has at least one sibling with a school aged child (Hometown Hero). From relative ages and the fact that I don't think he's old enough to have a school age child himself (old people bias), I think he's a younger brother. Emails his mother from work (About Face) so he probably doesn't live at home. Maybe he doesn't have email at home.

Education/ Skills

Has a merit badge in Hiking. (Switch)
Knows latin but not Greek (they didn't teach it at his high school) (Eye for an Eye)
Knows Shiatsu (Hometown Hero).
Worked two summers as a vetinary assistant during college (Dog Tags) and has an affinity with animals.
Tunes Pianos (Boxed In)
Has a college loan that is still to be paid off (Head Case)
Took a two week wilderness survival course - even encountered a bear (About Face).

Relationships

Ducky

See's Ducky as a father figure and a mentor. Can mostly stand Ducky's long stories but sometimes makes excuses to duck out. There is a constant misundertanding between the two where Ducky thinks Palmer's mind is "in the gutter". Jimmy has no qualms about pointing out how old Ducky is (Silver War, Frame Up)

Jimmy always drives the van when they go out together and Ducky navigates. They are notoriously late at the crime scene for which Ducky inevitably blames Palmer. Jimmy helps Ducky study for his forensic psychology degree (Escaped) and later Ducky gets him to study it (Lost and Found).

Ducky almost always refers to him as Mr. Palmer, though the ocassional Jimmy (eg. Pop Life) and sometimes 'lad' (Smoked?) gets in there. Jimmy refers to Ducky as Dr Mallard or just Doctor. He has never used the term 'Duckmeister', just in case you were thinking about using it. There is evidence that Jimmy knows Ducky's mother fairly well (Untouchable, Driven), and he might have been invited to dinner (Caught on Tape). Mrs Mallard thinks he's a servant (Untouchable).

When Ducky is under stress he can tend to shut Palmer out and, in fact, become agressive (Lt Jane Doe).

Ducky longs to hit Palmer sometimes, and not necessarily on the back of the head (The Bone Yard). He askes Gibbs about it again in An Eye for an Eye and by Grace Period he has tried it but is was worried that Palmer liked it.

In the early days, Ducky didn't think much of Palmer's ME skills (Bikini Wax) but in Untouchable he lets him do the external autopsy and then isn't mad at him for starting the internal by himself (or with Abby). In Driven he told Gibbs that he was capable of attending the crime scene and by Tribes he confides to Gibbs, "That young man will make a first class medical examiner one of these days."

Misses him when he's not around - will call him Jimmy when worried about him (About Face)

Lee

The canon ship pairing began in Bury You Dead and involves considerable amounts of lust and sneaking off behind Ducky's back. There is also the search for underwear missing in action which involves many places including the squad room, the towal bin at the Gym and the observation room (In the Dark). They'll do it anywhere - even the van (Smoked) and a small room off autopsy (Once a Hero). Since he doesn't seem to live at home (About Face) why were they doing it at work? Fetish or housemate.

Gibbs

While he respects Palmer's medical opinion, Gibbs has little time for Palmer and Palmer is a little nervous around Gibbs. This does not stop him providing information when required. Gibbs generally calls him Palmer but occassionally uses Jimmy. Gibbs wouldn't trust hin with a pistol (SWAK). Later treats him with more respect (About Face)

Abby

Jimmy had a crush on Abby early on but treats her more like an equal later after Lee satisfied those urgings. She calls him either Palmer, Jimmy or sometimes Jimster. She gets frustrated sometimes with his "Palmerness" (Untouchable). Abby calls him "stud muffin" and "Baby Gibbs" (About Face).

Ziva

Ziva likes Palmer and they share a love of pianos - Palmer having tuned hers when she had him and others over for dinner (Boxed In). They also share 'bad taste' humour eg. from Ziva: 'his blood would be more coffee coloured'. Gives him self defense class (About Face)

Tony

Tony doesn't have much time for Jimmy "I've had more stimulating conversations with cats" (Boxed In) who he has referred to as "the Austopsy Gremlin" on more than one occassion (Hometown Hero, Boxed In). Unlike with Gibbs, Palmer seems oblivious to Tony's distaste and continues to be friendly, always saying "Hi, Guys" and even placing his hand on Tony's shoulder once (Witch Hunt). The look on Tony's face was pricesless. The exception to this was Shalomb where Tony included him and gave him the name "Black Lung". Calls him Mini-Mallard (About Face)

McGee

McGee and Palmer do not have much interaction but they are friendly enough now. In season 2 Jimmy was a little afraid of McGee after the Abby gluing incident but they are good now. Jimmy has seen McGee with his pants down (Caught on Tape). In Smoked, Palmer was not impressed that there was a character named Pimmy Jalmer in McGee book 'Deep Six' who dreamt about sex with corpses. McGee treats Palmer like Ruby (Suspcision) in About Face. Note Palmer calls McGee "McGee" in About Face and McGee calls him "Jimmy".

Jenny

Professional relationship...not much going on.
